New renders of the next iteration of Apple's iPad Air may bring a massive change to the tablet's design language. According to leaks obtained by Svetapple, the next iPad Air will feature minuscule bezels with an in-display Touch ID fingerprint reader.

The 2020 iPad Pro wasn’t the huge upgrade people were hoping for, but Apple may have reserved its most exciting tablet features for the iPad Air line, which may be due for an update sometime later this year. Now, thanks to renders from Svetapple based on leaks, we may know what the next iPad Air looks like.

The most noticeable part of these renders is the striking design. According to leaks, the next version of the iPad Air will emulate the iPad Pro in looks, trimming down its bezels to minuscule size. This will increase the tablet's screen size to 11 inches from 10.5. The bezels in the renders are too small to house the necessary hardware for Face ID, implying that the 2020 iPad Air will continue to use Touch ID for user authentication.

Astute viewers will notice the absence of a physical home button, which has been a staple of the iPad and iPad Air lines since their inception. Rather, Svetapple claims the 2020 iPad Air will feature an in-display Touch ID, though they did not detail where it would be located.

Other features seem to be carry-overs from older iPad Air models. The renders show one front-facing camera and one rear-facing camera. As such, it’s unlikely the new iPad Air will feature the LiDAR scanner used in the iPad Pro.

Other specs are still unknown. While Apple could fit their A12 or A13 SoC in their upcoming tablet, it’s uncertain now if that will be the case. It’s also not known if the 2020 iPad Air will continue to use an IPS display or finally make the jump to OLED. Considering the iPad Air is a bridge device between the base iPad and the expensive iPad Pro, Apple will likely use a 60 Hz IPS LCD to cut down on costs.

Of course, take all of this with a grain of salt. These are not official renders; rather, they are renders created by Svetapple and are based on leaks. There’s still a lot up in the air concerning the iPad Air 2020. However, the iPad Air line has always brought great features in a sleek and beautiful case to consumers at a reasonable price. This tablet is one to get excited about.
