Six NFL teams could be landing spot for Jets' Jamal Adams - New York Post

sumantotos.blogspot.com

Jamal Adams is trying to force a trade from the Jets and pick his destination.

Bold move with two years remaining on his contract.

The Jets did not intend to trade Adams when he started politicking for a new contract earlier this offseason, and his trade request has not changed anything, a source told The Post.

The First-Team All-Pro is a talent worthy of all teams checking in with Jets general manager Joe Douglas on the asking price, but here are six logical landing spots (some on Adams’ preferred list, according to ESPN, and some not) if the Jets opt to reverse course:

Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys have their own contract dispute: Quarterback Dak Prescott wants a long-term extension but will leave just $11.2 million in cap space if he signs his $33 million franchise tender. Adams would fill a need unaddressed for years and not demand an immediate extension from his hometown team, per the Dallas Morning News. They reportedly offered a first-round pick for him in October but the Jets declined.

Philadelphia Eagles

GM Howie Roseman is one of the most aggressive traders in the NFL and has an open line to his protégé Douglas. After losing Malcolm Jenkins in free agency, converted cornerback Jalen Mills is expected to start at safety. Pairing Adams with cornerback Darius Slay would create one of the NFL’s best secondaries. But the Eagles already are projected to be $50.6 million OVER the cap in 2021 before adding another big contract.

Baltiimore Ravens

Adams is the prototypical player for this smashmouth defense and wants to emulate Ravens great Ed Reed. The Ravens reportedly were unhappy with free safety Earl Thomas even before he was arrested in May, though Adams is more of a strong safety. The Ravens, where Douglas came through the ranks and maintains friends in the front office, have $9.1 million in cap space now and $65.9 million in 2021.

Jacksonville Jaguars

The rebuilding Jaguars have trade capital: Six picks in the first four rounds of the 2021 NFL Draft, including additional first- and fourth-rounders. The vaunted defense from the 2017 AFC Championship game was completely stripped down and the team needs a face of the franchise. This would be a cold reminder to Adams that he doesn’t get to pick his destination after three years as a pro. Ask Odell Beckham if he wanted to go to Cleveland.

Houston Texans

It’s not Dallas, but it’s Texas, which Adams would welcome. Too bad for the Jets that Texans coach/general manager Bill O’Brien already was fleeced in trading away wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins to the Cardinals, or he would’ve been the perfect return piece.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Defensive coordinator Todd Bowles — former Jets head coach — can beg for a reunion and sell a perfect schematic match to GM Jason Licht, but the Buccaneers just drafted second-rounder Antoine Winfield for this position. They have extensions due soon for pass-rusher Shaq Barrett and receiver Chris Godwin, after loading up this offseason with Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski, so money will dry up fast.
