The last Porsche Cayenne GTS embraced downsizing, swapping out a naturally aspirated V-8 for a twin-turbo V-6. That brought more power and torque, but at the expense of character. Thankfully, the V-8 is back for this, the 2021 Porsche Cayenne GTS.
This new Cayenne GTS is following the same formula set by Porsche's latest GTS models—handling and interior upgrades combined with a detuned engine from the top-of-the-line model. So the 2021 Cayenne GTS gets a version of the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 from the Cayenne Turbo. In the Turbo, this engine makes 541 hp and 567 lb-ft of torque, while in the GTS it's tuned to 453 hp and 457 lb-ft. That's enough to get the Cayenne GTS to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds, if you opt for the Sport Chrono Package (which is standard on the Coupe).
Porsche also fits the Cayenne GTS with three-chamber air springs and adaptive dampers as standard, and the whole thing sits 30mm lower than a standard Cayenne S. You also get 21-inch wheels, and a sports exhaust. For Coupe models there's an even louder exhaust option with neat central tailpipes, but that only comes as part of the expensive Lightweight Sport Package.
As with all GTS models, the Cayenne gets slightly different front and rear fascias, with lots of black trim. Inside, there's tons of Alcantara and standard eight-way Sport Seats.
Base price for the regular Cayenne GTS is $108,650 (including a $1350 destination charge), while the Coupe is $111,850. That's around $20,000 less than a Cayenne Turbo, and about the same as a similarly equipped Cayenne S. So as with all Porsche GTS models, this one looks to be the sweet spot in the Cayenne range.
