Klay Thompson injured, Warriors fear it could be an Achilles - Golden State of Mind

While most NBA teams celebrated the addition of new talent through the 2020 NBA Draft on Wednesday night, the Golden State Warriors were left nursing an injury that could prove to be as disastrous as it is heartbreaking.

On Wednesday, while partaking in a basketball workout in Southern California with a handful of other NBA players, five-time All-Star Klay Thompson suffered a lower right leg injury. He was unable to put weight on his right leg as he left the gym.

Unfortunately, the news didn’t get better from there.

According to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports, Thompson will undergo on MRI on Thursday morning, with the Warriors fearing that he suffered a serious Achilles injury.

Yahoo Sources: The fear is Golden State Warriors star Klay Thompson has suffered a significant Achilles injury. An MRI scheduled for tomorrow morning.

ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne added that Thompson felt pain in his calf when he suffered the injury, and that members of the Warriors organization are headed south to be with him during the MRI.

Klay Thompson is having an MRI on his lower leg tomorrow morning. Everyone in Warriors land is very down, but hoping for the best. He felt pain in his lower leg—calf area— when he landed on it.

Thompson hasn’t played in 17 months, since he tore his ACL during the final game of the 2019 NBA Finals. If — and it’s still an if — he has a significant Achilles injury, we surely won’t see him at all during the 2020-21 season, and likely won’t see him until well into the 2021-22 season.

All in all, it could end up being two and a half years between on-court appearances for one of the most beloved players in franchise history. And just a horrendously unfair turn of events for someone who truly loves hooping.

For now we wait for the MRI news, and hold our breath and cross our fingers that the injury isn’t serious.
