Not that it comes as a surprise, but LeBron James officially took a side in the presidential race ahead of Election Day on Tuesday.
James — who has been extremely vocal about the election, helping register people to vote and other social justice issues in recent months — endorsed Vice President Joe Biden and his running mate Kamala Harris in an Instagram post on Monday night.
“One more day. Please,” he wrote. “We need EVERYTHING to change and it all starts tomorrow.”
James had stopped short of officially endorsing Biden and Harris in the past, but his support of their candidacy was never in question.
Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes asked James if he’d be endorsing their ticket in August while inside the NBA bubble at Walt Disney World, and James just laughed.
“I mean, what’s known don’t even need to be said,” he replied.

His endorsement is just the latest for Biden and Harris in the basketball world in recent days. San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich endorsed the ticket, saying he stands for “truth over lies,” and Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr and Philadelphia 76ers coach Doc Rivers teamed up for a powerful ad for The Lincoln Project. The Seattle Storm endorsed Biden as a team last month, too.
James had led the charge with More Than A Vote to help get people across the country registered to vote, and has recruited countless stars in the sports world to help him out — including Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara, Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard and Cleveland Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., to name a few.
LeBron James’ endorsement comes after chants at President Trump rally
James’ endorsement came just hours after President Donald Trump again took shots at him during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.
Trump — who also attacked Lady Gaga and Bon Jovi in the same rant at the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Airport — said he felt bad for James, referenced the NBA’s ratings and then once again claimed that players kneeling in protest during the national anthem is disrespecting the flag.
The crowd at his rally then started chanting, “LeBron James sucks! LeBron James sucks!”
The attacks are nothing new for the Los Angeles Lakers star. Though James has engaged in the past — he once famously called Trump a “bum” on Twitter — James has said he has no plans to get into a “back and forth” with the president anymore.
Instead, he’s focused on action.
“I don’t go back and forth with anybody. And I damn sure won’t go back and forth with that guy,” Trump said last month. “But we want better, we want change in our community. We always talk about, ‘We want change,’ and now we have the opportunity to do that.”
