NFL Power Rankings, Week 9: Some have the Chiefs over the Steelers - Behind the Steel Curtain

sumantotos.blogspot.com

The Pittsburgh Steelers, along with the rest of the NFL, are coming off the eighth week of a journey which has never been done in the history of the game. Playing games amidst a global pandemic.

The league has done tremendous work with protocols and adjustments to make sure this season goes off without a hitch, but even the best laid plans can have their bumps in the road. The Steelers experienced that first hand with an unexpected bye week after the Titans’ outbreak forced their Week 4 game to be moved.

Who do the experts think will be the team to beat this season? Power Rankings are one way to decipher who they like, or don’t like, at any particular juncture of the season. Heading into Week 9, there is a lot which can be expected. The Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens find themselves near the top of most rankings, while the Seattle Seahawks or the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are everyone’s favorite now in the NFC.

Where do the Steelers fall? Well that depends. After a perfect 7-0 start, almost everyone sees the black-and-gold as a Top 3 team. Take a look at some of the Power Rankings below, and be sure to let us know what you think of the rankings in the comment section below!

1. Kansas City Chiefs
2. Pittsburgh Steelers

“Another impressive performance by the Steelers, who rattled Lamar Jackson into four turnovers and got their mojo back on offense in a 28-24 win. The defense surrendered 265 yards on the ground to Baltimore, but it made huge plays to swing another one-score game between the two rivals. Robert Spillane set the tone with a pick-six in the first quarter, the front seven swallowed up Jackson on a fourth-and-short draw deep in Steelers territory with two minutes to play, and Minkah Fitzpatrick broke up Jackson’s end-zone pass on the final play of the game to clinch the victory. Pittsburgh’s a talented, well-coached team that knows how to close. That’ll play every week.”

3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
4. Seattle Seahawks
5. Baltimore Ravens
6. New Orleans Saints
7. Green Bay Packers
8. Buffalo Bills
9. Indianapolis Colts
10. Arizona Cardinals

1. Pittsburgh Steelers

Reason for optimism: Ability to win ugly
The Steelers are 7-0, matching the best start in franchise history, and they’re winning games without dominating opponents. The Steelers trailed by 10 in the first half to the Ravens and, a week earlier, nearly gave up a 20-point lead to the Titans in the second half. But the important thing is the Steelers are finding ways to keep a perfect record — thanks in large part to quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and a defense capable of making adjustments on the fly.”

1. Pittsburgh Steelers

“The Steelers established themselves atop the AFC North in a game that, apropos of the teams’ fierce rivalry, came down to the final play—in this case, Minkah Fitzpatrick swatting away Lamar Jackson’s pass at the goal line. The Steelers are 7–0 for the first time since 1978, when the franchise won its third Super Bowl.”
