Among Us devs know new things are taking long, here’s why - Polygon

The developers of Among Us dropped a line on Tuesday to thank fans for their patience and explain why new developments in the resurgent multiplayer smash hit are coming slowly.

Among Us gained incredible traction pretty late into 2020 that we weren’t expecting, and that meant A LOT of change for us,” InnerSloth wrote on the studio’s official blog. “Not only did we need to switch back to working on Among Us after thinking it was done, but we also needed to set ourselves up more sustainably to work on the game.”

Among Us launched on Windows PC in November 2018, but it became a quarantine-culture, social-gaming hit after top Twitch streamers started streaming it over the summer. The additional hiring and organization needed to take on post-release support for the game ate up a couple of months’ time, InnerSloth said. It also meant the studio stopped working on a sequel back in September, to make sure players on new platforms weren’t shortchanged by the original game.

“There’s a ton of other things out of our control (legal issues, meetings, planning), so sometimes these things take longer as well,” the blog post reads.

Among Us also made its console debut with the Nintendo Switch in December, which involves certification and processes other than post-launch support of the original game. InnerSloth, based in Redmond, Washington, has four employees. “We have help from our porting partners for that,” the studio said, “but it still means we need to make sure future things we do are supported on those platforms.”

Among Us will launch on Xbox One and Xbox Series X this year, and is already available to Xbox Game Pass for PC subscribers. At The Game Awards 2020 on Dec. 10, Innersloth announced a new map, Airship, would be joining the game.
