NASCAR recently banned the Confederate flag from being displayed at its events, but on Sunday at Talladega Superspeedway in Alabama, a plane flew over the racetrack with a Confederate flag and banner that read, "Defund NASCAR.'

The Confederate flag ban came after a week of many, including NASCAR's Bubba Wallace, speaking out against the presence of the controversial flag at races. Wallace is the only Black top tier NASCAR driver.

"The presence of the Confederate flag at NASCAR events runs contrary to our commitment to providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for all fans, our competitors and our industry," NASCAR said in a statement.

"Bringing people together around a love for racing and the community that it creates is what makes our fans and sport special. The display of the Confederate flag will be prohibited from all NASCAR events and properties."

NASCAR's ban also came after the death of George Floyd, a Black man who died after a Minneapolis police officer pressed a knee on his neck while being apprehended. Floyd's death has shaken the country to its core and garnered support for demands to remove Confederate symbols throughout the United States.

Sunday's GEICO 500 race in Talladega was rescheduled for Monday at 3 p.m. ET because of inclement weather.
