Samsung announced today in Seoul, South Korea, that it has finally activated a feature that it promised with the launch of its popular fitness wearable, the Galaxy Watch Active 2. Users in South Korea can now start taking blood pressure measurements through their smart fitness watch.
While the Galaxy Watch Active 2 is now able to take blood pressure measurements itself, Samsung notes that you will have to first calibrate it with a traditional blood pressure cuff before using the feature independently. Results can then be synced to your Samsung Health Monitor app on a Galaxy phone and then shared with your doctor should you chose to do so.
The feature has only gained regulatory clearance in South Korea and is presumably still under review in other countries and other parts of the world. The official Samsung press release did not indicate a timeline for when wider worldwide adoption may occur. Samsung also mentioned in the press release that it hopes to be able to activate ECG tracking once that is approved by health and safety regulators.
The Galaxy Watch Active 2 has been favorably reviewed here at Android Central, and is well-positioned against the best fitness trackers on the market such as the Apple Watch Series 5, Fitbit Versa 2, and Garmin Forerunner 245.
