The allure of Steph Curry going absolutely supernova in an NBA Finals game will catch the attention of any basketball lover, even if they’re one of the greatest to ever play the sport.
During an ESPN2 simulcast of the NBA Finals between the Golden State Warriors and Boston Celtics, the trio of Pelicans guard C.J. McCollum, ESPN analyst Tim Legler and ESPN anchor Michael Eaves had Hall of Famer Magic Johnson on to talk about his takes on the series, and the times he played in the NBA Finals with the Los Angeles Lakers.
While the broadcast talked about Johnson’s famous baby hook shot he scored against the Boston Celtics to win Game 4 of the 1987 Finals, Curry made a three over Celtics forward Grant Williams. Johnson couldn’t focus on the question with the excellence on the court.
“I got to stop you, Michael, wait a minute. That man, that same man just hit another three, didn’t he? Steph Curry,” Johnson said before letting out a laugh.
That shot brought Curry to 15 points with just over five minutes remaining in the first quarter, and was his fourth 3-pointer of the game. He was certainly on one for the entirety of the opening frame of the Finals, finishing the first quarter with 21 points and shooting 6-of-8 from behind the arc. His six threes in a quarter were a Finals record.
