It looks like Chelsea could have a fully fit squad for Saturday’s Champions League final, as both N’Golo Kanté and Edouard Mendy were pictured as full participants in Wednesday’s training as the team began preparations after a couple days off, ahead of the massive showdown against Manchester City in Porto.
Kanté had missed the Premier League finale after picking up a hamstring “awareness” in the penultimate match of the league season, while Mendy had to be substituted off at half-time on Sunday after falling into the goalpost when trying to save Aston Villa’s first goal in that 2-1 defeat.
Kanté’s hamstrings have been a standing concern for a while, even as we’ve improved in our treatment of them, while Mendy has been a key figure between the posts after two years of having to constantly worry about Kepa Arrizabalaga. Their return should give us the best chance of winning on Saturday, with Kanté saving his best form this season for our European nights and Mendy leading the Champions League with a record nine (9!) clean sheets.
Three days to go!
