A goose was on the loose! … Air Yordan’s homer was still flying! … And two outs, nobody on is the new foolproof run-scoring formula in that Phillies-Braves series!
But on Day Two of our Weird and Wild Division Series coverage, there’s only one place to begin — with a guy swinging at a pitch that was headed for the center of the Earth.
1. More bounce for the ounce
With Election Day coming up, you’ll probably be hearing a lot about swing states. But here at the Weird and Wild column, we’re far more interested in Jurickson Profar’s swing state.
That’s because, in the fourth inning Wednesday night, in the Padres’ otherwise uplifting 5-3 Game 2 win over the Dodgers, Profar’s swing state looked kinda like this.
So what the heck was that? That was the Padres’ swing-fling left fielder taking an actual hack, in a nationally televised postseason baseball game, at a Clayton Kershaw curveball that was headed for home plate at Dodger Stadium — but had to change planes at O’Hare first.
Look, I know that way more important stuff happened in the two Division Series games Wednesday. But we have lots of brilliant writers to chronicle that stuff. We only have one October Weird and Wild column. And what could possibly have happened in these games that was Weirder and Wilder than that swing … except maybe this.
