With the Big Ten Conference beginning play on Friday with Illinois vs. No. 14 Wisconsin, SportsLine recently released its odds on the first Big Ten football coach to be fired in the 2020 season. The list contains seven coaches within the Big Ten who are potentially on the hot seat.
After originally postponing the season, the Big Ten announced on September 16 that they would be participating in a conference only, eight-game schedule beginning this weekend. The first game will take place on Friday between Illinois and Wisconsin.
During Thursday afternoon’s edition of ESPN’s SportsCenter, college football expert Kirk Herbstreit talked about the Big Ten’s advantages and disadvantages.
“I think there’s an advantage in that they’ve been practicing for 10 weeks,” Herbstreit said. “That’s like having two training camps in August. It allows the freshman to really contribute and be further along in Week 1 than under a normal set of circumstances … I think obviously it’s a disadvantage in that everybody else has been playing ball and showing everyone who they are, but an advantage when it comes to some of the younger players to have a lot of reps on good vs. good and really finding out where they are how they can help.”
With an eight-game, conference only schedule to work with in 2020, coaches must capitalize on each and every game, especially those who are on the hot seat. Check out the list of odds on the first Big Ten coach firing below.
