Everybody is holding their breath for the AMD Navi 21 GPUs announcement scheduled for tomorrow, hoping Team Red could pull a rabbit out of its hat just like they did with the Ryzen 4000 APUs earlier this year or the Ryzen 5000 desktop CPUs announced in early October. Initial rumors were quite reserved in regards to the Navi 21 flagship performance, but, when Lisa Su showed that sneak peek at what we can expect from the Navi 21, it looked like there could actually be room for a few surprises. Fans immediately started speculating that Lisa did not show the performance of the best GPU, and then we started seeing some pretty incredible figures in leaked 3DMark benchmarks. As if that was not enough to hype fans up, the guys over at RedGamingTech on Youtube recently reported on some whispers regarding the gaming performance that is going to be previewed in AMD’s Radeon RX 6000-series official reveal tomorrow, and we might soon see Nvidia rethinking its marketing strategy, if they are not already doing so.
According to a recent video posted on the RedGamingTech channel, AMD will first show 1440p and 4K performance figures for the RX 6800 XT cards that are meant to compete with the RTX 3080 models from Nvidia. AMD has apparently cherry-picked 10 games and the Radeon card will deliver an average of 90 fps in 4K resolutions. Of course, AMD will also show how the results stack up against the RTX 3080, and rumor has it that the Radeon card wins in 5 games, draws in 2 games and loses in 3 games. The situation is even more clearer in 1440p, as the RX 6800 XT card wins in 8 games and loses in only 2 games. The advantage might be even bigger in 1080p, but we will have to wait for reviews to confirm this. It will be interesting to see if AMD will try to misrepresent Nvidia’s results.
When it comes to ray tracing performance, RedGamingTech confirms that the RTX 3080 is winning by a decent margin, yet the RTX 6800 XT is on par with the RTX 2080 Ti, and this performance could possibly be boosted in conjunction with an upsampling technology similar to DLSS. This tech is rumored to be introduced in a driver update sometime between December 2020 and January 2021, and it might not be as sharp as DLSS, but it can boost fps counts better.
AMD will also show some RX 6900 XT performance metrics and these might be even more surprising, although RedGamingTech does not have any info on this. Additionally, we should get some more information about the availability of lower-end cards like the RX 6700 (Navi 22) and RX 6600 (Navi 23). Price-wise, RedGamingTech reports that AMD will decide on exact MSRPs just before the official announcement, so what we have been hearing about lower prices compared to the RTX 3000-series might not hold true, especially if the AMD performance is indeed better.
