Legislative Candidates Should Disclose Personal Data: House Speaker

Jakarta: House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Bambang Soesatyo has said that political parties should instruct legislative candidates to disclose their personal data.

"Political parties should punish legislative candidates who ignore the instructions," the Golkar Party politician said here on Monday.

Indonesia will hold the first-ever simultaneous general and presidential elections in April 17. Voters will elect the president, vice president as well as members of national and local legislative bodies on the same day.

According to the General Elections Commission (KPU), more than 190 million people will be eligible to vote. In addition to that, around 800 thousand polling station will be opened on the voting day.

"If they don't show their personal data, voters can't pick the best candidate," Bambang said.

"The elections commission must find the solution. They should resolve this issue," the lawmaker said.
