Current Account Deficit Widens in Q4 2018

Jakarta: Indonesia's current account deficit stood at 3.57 percent of GDP in the fourth quarter of 2018, rising from 3.28 percent of GDP in the previous quarter.

The country's current account deficit reached $9.1 billion last quarter. It increased by $0.5 billion compared to the previous quarter.

"It was still stable. It was balanced with financial account surplus," Bank Indonesia statistics department head Yati Kurniati told a press conference on Friday, February 8, 2019.

"We recorded a financial account surplus of $15.7 billion. It compensated the current account deficit," she said.

According to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Indonesian economy grew by 5.17 percent in 2018. It was Indonesia's highest annual growth in five years.

In addition to that, Indonesian economy grew by 5.18 percent in the fourth quarter of 2018. It was slightly stronger than earlier expectations.
