Jakarta: Trade Ministry domestic trade director general Tjahya Widayanti said Monday that the ministry will control refine sugar trade to protect local sugar producers.
"The ministry has issued Trade Minister's Regulation No. 01/2019 on Refined Sugar Trade," Tjahjya in a written statement received by Medcom
"Refined sugar can only be traded by producers to industries as raw materials," the official added.According to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), consumer prices increased by 0.32 percent in January 2019. In the meantime, food prices increased by 0.92 percent last month.
Indonesia recorded a trade deficit of US$8.57 billion in 2018. It was the worst trade deficit in President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's era.
"Producers, cooperatives, and industries that violate the rules will be given sanctions," she added.
