Indonesia Wants to Become 12th Largest Car Exporter: Minister

Jakarta: Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati has said that the government recently issued measures to boost exports of completely built up (CBU) vehicles.

"We want to be world's main car producer. We want to be the 12th largest car exporter," the former World Bank managing director told reporters on Tuesday, February 12, 2019.

Sri said that Indonesia is currently the 17th largest car exporter. She added that the country is planning to export more than 400 thousand CBU vehicles this year.

According to the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo), domestic car sales reached 1,151,291 units in 2018. It increased by 6.9 percent compared to the previous year

Indonesian automotive industry produced 1,343,714 units of cars in 2018. The industry also exported 264.553 units of cars last year.

In the meantime, according to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Indonesian exports reached US$180.06 billion in 2018. The number increased by 6.65 percent compared to 2017.

Indonesian non-oil and gas exports reached US$162.65 billion last year. The number increased by 6.25 percent compared to the previous year.
