Jakarta: At least three people were killed after a landslide in Medeng and Sungkung villages in Siding, Bengkayang, West Kalimantan on Thursday, January 31, 2019.
"The landslide occurred at 09.30 PM Western Indonesia Time (WIB). It killed at least three people," said BNPB spokesperson Sutopo Purwo Nugroho in a written statement on Friday, February 1, 2019.
"Two people were missing. 11 houses were damaged," he added.Disaster agencies along with military and police have dispatched dozens of rescuers to find the missing. They also have advised local residents to stay vigilant.
Heavy rainfall will occur in Sumatra, Kalimantan, Java and Papua throughout February. Torrential rain may trigger hydro-meteorological disasters such as floods, dust devils and landslides.
